1. Fake Carrier MC Numbers

Thieves clone or slightly modify a real carrier’s MC number:
Same name, different contact info
Slight spelling changes
New email domains that look authentic
To a broker under time pressure, it passes.

2. Spoofed Emails & Dispatch Impersonation

Emails look identical to real dispatch communications:
Correct logos
Familiar language
Matching rate details
Often these emails are copied directly from previous legitimate loads.

3. Stolen or Altered Rate Confirmations

Once access is gained:
Rate confirmations are stolen or recreated
Pickup numbers are correct
Appointment times are accurate
At the dock, nothing appears suspicious.

4. Legitimate Pickup, Illegitimate Outcome

The driver:
Signs in
Presents paperwork
Gets loaded
Leaves the facility
No forced entry.
No broken seals.
No immediate red flags.
By the time anyone realizes something is wrong, the freight has already been:
Cross-docked
Re-sold
Or stripped of high-value SKUs
Recovery is rare.

Why This Theft Method Is So Effective

It exploits trust, not force
It bypasses physical security entirely
It relies on procedural gaps, not violence
Most warehouses verify documents, not digital identity.
And insurance companies hate these claims — because proving fraud is harder than proving theft.
